Trust Hosts ICAA’s New Heights Student Program in Historic Anacostia

On Tuesday, Sept. 30, The L’Enfant Trust (Trust) welcomed students from the Washington Latin Public Charter School to Historic Anacostia through the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art’s New Heights program.

Their visit included:

  • A guided tour of Frederick Douglass’ home, Cedar Hill. Cedar Hill is a National Historic Site operated by the U.S. National Park Service.
  • A look at the Trust’s housing affordability rehabilitation projects, including our current rehabilitation site: Big Green.
  • An introduction to Anacostia’s architectural heritage.
  • A reflection activity over lunch at Busboys and Poets. Students brought home free “Southeast Love” swag thanks to Nikki Peele and The Advoc8te!

A program for middle school and high school students, New Heights fosters an appreciation of the practice of architecture through experiences in the classroom and in the field.

We’re very grateful to the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art for including us in such a fantastic program and learning opportunity for the next generation of preservationists, designers, and architects!
