The L’Enfant Trust Awarded $75,000 Grant from The 1772 Foundation
The L’Enfant Trust (Trust) is pleased to announce the organization received a $75,000 grant from The 1772 Foundation. The grant for 2025 will support the Trust’s Historic Property Redevelopment Program’s (HPRP) continued rehabilitation of historic 1220 Maple View Place, SE (Big Green) into multi-unit workforce housing. Big Green is located in Anacostia, a predominantly Black neighborhood in Washington, DC that has experienced decades of disinvestment.
In this grant round, The 1772 Foundation, in cooperation with the National Preservation Partners Network, awarded 19 grants to historic property redevelopment programs. Individual grants ranged in amount from $16,000 to $75,000, an amount received by only three grantees, including The L’Enfant Trust.
Ethiel Garlington, executive director of The 1772 Foundation says, “We continue to be impressed by the entrepreneurial spirit of preservation practitioners across the country, who are putting market-based solutions to work in order to save more historic places.”
Since 2006, The 1772 Foundation has been a leading proponent of HPRPs, recognizing their positive impact on community economic development and neighborhood revitalization. The Trust’s HPRP would not be possible without the transformational support of The 1772 Foundation.
